INTRODUCTION

Glenavy School is a state co-educational primary school that has served the community for over a hundred and twenty years. It has developed a fine tradition in educational, cultural and recreational activities, and maintains a proud place in the community. The school’s success can be attributed to the tremendous co-operation, enthusiasm and efficient service of all connected with Glenavy both in the past and the present.

The onset of dairy farms has seen the roll almost double over the last few years and at the beginning of 2009, we were pleased and proud to have our 4th classroom opened by Jacqui Dean MP.

The rural aspect is an attractive and significant feature of the area and offers a unique perspective on life. With this comes a range of different educational opportunities and experiences which reflect the unique culture of Glenavy School. This is reinforced through the efforts of an experienced, dedicated and talented staff who through modern, appropriate teaching strategies provide interesting and varied learning experiences for our students.

We have an enthusiastic Board of Trustees, which works hard in the interests of all students of Glenavy School. We are all justifiably proud of our well maintained buildings, grounds and facilities.

As the winter stars rise, it is time for us to come together to celebrate Matariki, the Māori New Year. Matariki is a special time to reflect on the past year, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future with hope and anticipation.

To mark this beautiful occasion, we would love to invite you and your children to a special Matariki Breakfast at school.

When: Friday, 26th June
This breakfast is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to connect, share a warm meal, and celebrate together. The school will be providing some kai such as toast, cereal, and eggs, sausages, bacon, and potatoes cooked on the BBQ.

Following the breakfast, we will be hosting a Whakanui (celebration). This allows you to come and look at your children's work, especially the art they have done around Matariki.

To help us with catering, please let us know how many members of your family will be attending If you are able to donate bacon, eggs, sausages, milk, or cereal. Thank would be greatly appreciated

We look forward to sharing this special morning with you all.

Nau mai, haere mai — everyone is welcome.

Ngā mihi nui,

Caitlin Foster - Rūma Kea
